Overview
Space Trek (スペーストレック) is a fixed screen arcade space shooter released by Sega for VIC Dual hardware in 1980.
You control a ship which can move freely around the screen. Aliens appear from above to fire and swoop at you, and you have to avoid everything while shooting back. You also can activate a force barrier if you are about to collide with something. This prevents you from moving and uses some of your limited supply of shield energy, but will cause whatever hit you to bounce off harmlessly.
There are three scenarios. In the first, you are fighting blue aliens within our solar system while Saturn, in the background, orbits the sun. Destroying a UFO will cause Saturn to turn into something that looks like the Viper probe droid from Star Wars. Shooting this will turn it back into Saturn again. Once all of the UFOs are accounted for, you move onto the second scenario at the enemy base. Here, some yellow ships fly about in loopy patterns. Shoot them once and they turn purple. The second shot will kill them. The third scenario pits you against a formation of blue UFOs and magenta ships that resemble tie fighters. In addition to dealing with the formation, you can also blast into the surface of the planet to get to a larger UFO which may be destroyed for bonus points.
After all three scenarios have been completed, the next round starts with similar but faster gameplay.
