Overview
The Last of Us: Part II - Remastered is a remastered version of The Last of Us: Part II, for years after the release of the original game. For Windows this is the first release of the game. Owners of the original PlayStation version could upgrade to this remaster for a reduced price.
It features visual and technical improvements over the original release, and includes additional gameplay modes and content. It benefits from the improved hardware capabilities of the PlayStation 5, offering enhanced visual fidelity, faster load times, support for DualSense controller features, and higher resolution and frame rate targets, including support for the PlayStation 5 Pro through a later update. It also includes an audio description feature for accessibility and an optional audio commentary track for cut-scenes, featuring developers and cast members.
Several new modes and gameplay additions distinguish the remastered edition from its predecessor:
No Return: A roguelike survival mode featuring randomized combat encounters and procedural elements. Players can choose from a roster of ten characters, each with unique gameplay traits. Runs consist of five encounters and a final boss fight, with gameplay variations such as wave-based combat, safe-cracking objectives, and ally defense scenarios. Items and upgrades acquired during runs are not retained after completion or failure. Players can unlock cosmetics and modifiers by completing challenges.
Lost Levels: This mode presents three previously cut gameplay sequences that were removed during the development of the original game. Each level is presented in an unfinished state and includes an introduction by creative director Neil Druckmann and commentary from designers.
Guitar Free Play: A sandbox music mode that allows players to perform using in-game characters such as Ellie, Joel, and Gustavo Santaolalla (the game’s composer, represented by a digital likeness). Various guitars and locations can be unlocked, and one of the instruments includes Santaolalla's signature banjo.
