Overview
Postal: Brain Damaged is a first-person shooter and a spin-off of the Postal series, known for its crude humor. While this spin-off is a shooter as well, it plays more like a fast-paced arena / boomer shooter than the more careful approach of the original games that put more focus on slow exploration. Weapons have a small amount of ammo and different tactics need to be used to conserve as much ammo as possible. The gameplay of DOOM Eternal is cited as an inspiration. Levels have a mix of large open environments with freedom to explore combined with secrets, smaller corridors with keys and puzzles and more open arenas where large hordes of enemies need to be fought, with a bounce pads and platforms thrown into the mix.
The game takes place into the mind of the protagonist Postal Dude. It carries the same tone and humor of the original games, taking jabs at contemporary trends and for instance maintaining the ability to urinate on everything. This action is not only used leisurely, but also to solve puzzles and mixed with power-ups to create a powerful, explosive stream for instance. Weapons are largely long-ranged, but there is a showel (a shovel combined with a chainsaw) and a regular kick for melee combat. Most weapons have a secondary fire mode or an alternative use and they can be combined with items such as dual-wield. The main weapons are the Pistol MK420, Super Hooker Shotgun, Nailbiter, Rocket Launcher, BFG 69000, Gatling gun, Penetrator and Cat Launcher.
Fast movement is provided through a crouch slide and the alternative mode of the shotgun to attach a hook to enemies to move towards them quickly.
