The game features a rock music theme mixed with surreal, space-age fantasy elements. Rock 2500 shares its playfield layout with Playmatic's earlier 1980 machine, Black Fever, but features completely different artwork. The artwork depicts a band performing inside a large, pink, translucent structure, along with cosmic vampires and alien characters.
