Overview
Trick Trap (also known as Trick Trap 1771) is a top-down run-and-gun arcade game developed and published by Konami. Originally developed in Japan under the title Labyrinth Runner, it was released for international markets between 1987 and 1988.
The game follows a familiar retro premise: the Prince of Vegetaria must rescue Princess Papaya, who has been kidnapped by the Devil. Players fight their way through hordes of monsters and spiders across five distinct areas within a strict time limit:
• Forest
• Castle Wall
• Maze
• Railway Truck
• Devil's Castle
The gameplay is fast-paced, blending traditional shooting mechanics with light maze exploration. While moving through the levels, players can pick up power-ups that expand their capabilities. However, these power-ups disappear rapidly if not collected quickly, and losing a life strips you of your upgrades, dramatically increasing the difficulty. The game is also notable for having two different paths at the end, leading to two distinct endings.
