Overview
The Wild Gunman arcade machine refers to two distinct chapters in Nintendo's history: a groundbreaking 1974 electro-mechanical projection game and a 1984 digital video game conversion.
A main projector would display live-action footage of a Western outlaw walking toward the screen. The player waited for the gunman’s eyes to flash, signalling the moment to draw and shoot from a tethered holster. If the player was fast enough, the cabinet instantly switched to a sub-projector showing a film reel of the cowboy falling backward. If they were too slow, a reel showing the player being "shot" played.
