Paladog

In this game you play as Paladog, the great hero of critterland that leads his army in battle against the demon armies that declared war on them. The game mixes real-time strategy with elements from defense games. The objectives are to destroy enemy bases, escort horse carts and defeat a number of bosses. The player controls an armored dog on a horse that can move left and right freely in a 2D side-scrolling environment with a single plane.

You need to wait for resources (food) to accumulate so you can build units to attack enemies or a fortress on the map. These move on their own and cannot be controlled directly. Paladog has special abilities to help fighting and can level up, gaining access to new abilities that can influence the troops. When he is killed, the level is immediately lost. You can also buy or find staffs and rings that make you stronger. In the Battlefield levels you take on an enemy or a fortress, in Escort levels you need to defend someone, and the Destiny mode is a survival mode where items and spells arrive on a conveyor belt.
