Overview

Play the role of an omnipotent hand as you travel from village to village and plunder its inhabitants in this twisted "bash 'em up" god game. Pillage the Village features ragdoll physics, gesture recognition, and visceral gameplay with dark humor. It is a prequel to the classic Defend your Castle, picking up before the events of the original. The brief introductory story offers some explanation as to why the attacking horde later attempts to destroy you with such vehemence and zealotry. There are two paths to choose; take a moral stand and fight for the pacifist way or indulge in your deep desires and walk the path of the antagonist; Each branch opens a different set of spells, upgrades and abilities and most of them cannot be used at the same time when following a certain alignment. Gameplay sessions consist of different rounds where a village is shown. Players need to grab the villages and toss them into the air to kill them. Dead enemies leave behind gold. More difficult enemies have parachutes, ninja ropes, jet packs or gliders to get back on the ground safely. There are also knights that can push the hand away and a superhero who flies into the air to rescue villagers. The towns people cannot leave the screen, as this depletes a meter. They need to be killed instead or the game is over. Based on the alignment, players can buy spells such as euthanasia, slave cage, freeze time, acme anvil, great barrier and more to get rid of the townspeople more effectively. There is also a number of neutral upgrades that provide more gold, mana or sets traps. While playing, there is a sandbox mode and an enhanced regular mode to unlock.
