Tarzan was initially announced for as a 1983 ColecoVision release at the 1983 Winter Consumer Electronics Show with a 2600 port announced later that year during the summer CES for a November release. These dates slipped, with the ColecoVision Tarzan finally shipping in August, and the 2600 game announced as a second quarter release before being quietly canceled. The game was lost until 2022, when a former Coleco employee sold a prototype to collector AtariSpot who worked with longtime Atari homebrew programmer Thomas Jentzsch to dump the rom and to modify its unique bankswitching scheme to an F6 scheme that works with emulators and flash carts. With the help of the Video Game History Foundation, the original and modified roms were released to the community on June 3, 2024.
