Rescue (Osbourne/McGraw-Hill)

Overview

One of the many games called Rescue for C64, this one was published as a type-in game in a book "Commodore 64 Fun and Games". The goal is to pilot a shuttle to rescue survivors from a crashed ship on an alien planet. The mothership cannot land, so players must ferry survivors back one at a time, contending with increasingly hostile alien forces. Survivors are found in groups of five, and as more are rescued, alien attacks intensify.

The game features three difficulty levels. On easy, players start with five shuttles and face one row of alien attackers, gaining bonuses for rescuing full groups. Higher difficulties reduce the number of shuttles and increase alien rows and hazards, such as permanent space flak and smaller landing pads.

Controlled with a joystick, missions start with 3000 gallons of fuel. Points are earned for each rescue, with more points awarded on higher difficulties. The game ends when shuttles are exhausted or the mother ship runs out of fuel.
