Castle Quest

Overview

Castle Quest was programmed in machine code by Tony Sothcott and published by Micro Power. It was released exclusively for the BBC Microcomputer.

It is of significant importance in the gaming history of the platform. It was noted at the time of release as being the best game on the BBC Micro in it's genre for it's problem solving, colourful graphics and smooth hardware side scrolling called Scrollerama.

The game is an arcade adventure set in a wizard's castle, the player's task being to find the treasure. Various objects can be collected and used to solve problems. These include everyday items, furniture, specialist equipment, a sword and valuables. Other characters include guards, animals, a witch and the wizard.

Play requires both dexterity and lateral thinking (obtaining the sword or escaping from the Prison being two examples). A saved game facility is not provided.
