Overview
The Derby Owners Club II arcade machine is a massive, multiplayer horse-racing simulation game developed by Hitmaker and published by Sega in 2001. Running on the legendary Sega NAOMI hardware platform, it was an immersive arcade-exclusive title that blended racing, breeding, and RPG-like progression elements.
Players purchased physical, writeable memory cards directly from the machine. These cards saved your horse's unique statistics, name, racing silks, and lineage, allowing you to walk into any arcade, insert your card, and continue your progress.
You began by pairing sire and dam bloodlines to create a foal. You had to choose your strategy, as horses were categorised into "front runners" (fast out of the gate) or "stretch runners" (explosive final sprinters).
