A single-player freeware strategy game paradoxically published in Amiga Classix Gold, the game was created in 1995 by Newline International Software. The game's name refers to the siege and it is a popular German board game with a version even being put out by Milton Bradley at one point. Two players compete, with the attackers outnumbered by the defenders. The defenders protect a fortress with two officers. The attackers must box in the officers before their forces are weakened. The Belagerungs spiel was probably the most popular war game of the 1800s. A descendant of Fox and Geese, it is played on a cruciform game board: the upper arm represents a fortress and the other three the field before it. The two players’ forces are unequal: two officers defend the fortress against many attacking rebels. The rebels must box in the officers before their superior forces are weakened by capture.
