The Struggle for Guadalcanal

Overview

The Struggle for Guadalcanal is a 2-player World War II strategy game.

Based upon the Japanese American battle over the island of Guadalcanal, the player acts as commander of their respective force, with game-play beginning on August 07, 1942. 2 players can play on the same computer, but modem support is also available. Each player controls a fleet of naval vessels, submarines, ground and air support.

During each turn, the player can rearrange the composition of their task forces and set their overall objective. The player also must ensure appropriate cargo supplies of troops, fuel, and ammo. Submarine forces and aircraft must also be closely managed.

Vessel movements occur on a separate map of the Soloman Islands, where the player moves every one of their task forces individually using the keyboard, with each task force having a specific number of movement points available. After the movement phase, each side has the option of launching their ground assault of Guadalcanal, as well as launching attack bombers, float-planes, and scouting missions for enemy vessels.

At the final resolution of the turn, the player receives a report of all combat operations and results.
