Overview

The day after Reiko marries into the patrician Tsubakikoji family her beloved husband dies, leaving her with nothing but a rose and the scorn of his family. Despite her low origins Reiko is determined, as wife of Shunsuke, eldest son of the Tsubakikoji house, to claim her title as mistress. But the mocking aristocrats that make up the female members of the main family branch deny her rightful position. Clutching the rose given her by Shunsuke on their wedding night she prepares to prove her case, by force if necessary, and put the wicked blue-bloods in their place. Rose & Camellia is set in a seemingly Japanese house with a mix of Victorian themes. All clothing is Victorian, all names are characteristic of Japan. The goal of the game is to gain the respect of the other women in the Tsubakikoji by slapping them silly, but one need watch out as they can have brutal back hands. Once the womanly battle begins a time bar will appear across the top of the screen and a small attack box in the right corner behind Reiko. By dragging your cursor in an arc from this box to your opponent's face you'll be able to slap them. The fast and more centered the movement the better the slap. You may repeat this until the time bar runs out and the attack box vanishes. The time bar will now be set for the opponent's attack and an evasion box will appear in the left corner. By dragging your cursor from this box across the screen you'll be able to dodge slaps. If you successfully dodge a counter attack box will briefly appear in the right corner allowing you a quick slap; likewise, if you fail to hit your foe's face in an attack they may have the opportunity to counter. The battle ends when someone's health, represented by a number of flowers, runs out. You start the game with four roses but may collect more by beating aristocrats without being harmed. Lost hearts will also carry over. There are five levels, each with progressing difficulty.
