Surgeon Simulator 2013

Overview

A humorous, physics-based game in which the player, as novice surgeon Nigel Burke, is asked to perform very complex medical procedures like heart transplants or brain surgery. The game is deliberately hard to control, with the player having to manually handle movement, rotation, and every individual finger of the hand they have to perform the operation with. Further, in addition to common surgical instruments like scalpels or bone saws, there is also an array of very inappropriate tools such as pens or hammers. All tools have to be picked up and controlled manually, and inevitable blunders are commented on by the player's alter ego.

The main game mechanic revolves around the patients' blood loss. Careless actions can lead to blood spills, and injuring certain body parts with inappropriate instruments can lead to a continuous blood loss indicated in millilitres per second, which puts a time limit on the completion of the surgery. An operation is considered successful if the organ in question is roughly in the right position, and the player's performance is judged according to duration and blood loss. The surgery is only failed when the patient completely bleeds out. More difficult missions take place in a moving ambulance, where the physical effects make precise action even more difficult.

A September 2013 update added alien autopsy transplants. Set in a new environment, the player operates on the alien Gworb with different organs to remove in six operations.
