On a November day when the snow turned to rain, Ryo Hazuki arrives home just in time to see his father killed by Lan Di, a man Ryo's father obviously knew very well. Ryo attempts to stop Lan Di, but is effortlessly beaten to within an inch of his life. After recovering from his injuries Ryo sets out to track down his father's murderer, as well as uncover his family's secrets and the mystery of the Phoenix and Dragon mirrors that Lan Di seeks.

Shenmue Goodies is a mini-game for the Sega Dreamcast's VMU (Virtual Memory Unit).

It could be transferred to your VMU with the Shenmue Passport disc that was included with the original Dreamcast versions of Shenmue by connecting to the internet. When online, in "Everyone's Space", the Shenmue Goodies feature is there where you can send icons and animations of nearly every character in the game to your VMU and they can be viewed when playing the mini-game. Four characters are already pre-installed which are Ryo Hazuki, Shenhua Ling, Wuying Ren, and Niao Sun. Every other character will cost you a Winning Can each, which can be obtained in Shenmue randomly when buying a drink at the drink vending machines.
