Fall Guys (previously known as Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout) is a free-to-play platform and battle royale video game developed by Mediatonic. The game features up to 32 players controlling jellybean-like creatures and competing against each other in a series of randomly selected minigames, such as obstacle courses or team soccer. Players are eliminated as rounds progress until eventually, the last remaining player is crowned the winner. The game draws inspiration from game shows such as Fūun! Takeshi Jō, It's a Knockout, Wipeout, and playground games such as Chase and English Bulldog. The game was published by Devolver Digital for PlayStation 4 and Windows on August 4, 2020. Following Mediatonic's acquisition, the publishing rights were transferred to Epic Games. The game subsequently became free-to-play on June 21, 2022, and was released on additional platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Gameplay It is a game that up to 32 players can compete in battle royale-like matches. Players, represented as living beans with arms and legs, move around a three-dimensional playing field, with additional moves such as jumping, grabbing/climbing, or diving to aid in gameplay. The goal is to qualify for later rounds by successfully completing each of the randomly selected minigames. Certain minigames involve racing to a finish line at the end of the map, while others add elements of teamwork. In each minigame, obstacles appear around the map for added complexity. Players who are too slow or do not meet certain requirements for a minigame are eliminated. In the final round, the few remaining players compete in a final round with a random minigame designed for a smaller group of players. The winner of the match is the last player standing. Every few months, a season is made that you can advance by gaining "Fame" which is earned by playing or completing missions (there are approximately 5 per day). There is a pass that is earned with beans, each reward can be free or exclusive to the pass, they give you clothes, praises, beans, etc. By earning crowns, you will advance on the crown path which is similar to the pass but is advanced with crowns instead of fame. (the crown path does not reset) Using an in-game currency, "Commendations", players can purchase items and emotes for their character to wear/use in-game. Players earn praise by leveling up in the battle pass and completing challenges. The premium in-game currency "beans" can be earned by paying or in the fame pass, and is used to purchase better cosmetics or the fame pass. Additionally, by completing some challenges, in the fame pass, or winning matches, players can earn crown fragments. If they collect 60 of these they will be able to get a crown, which is used to increase the crown rank to get exclusive cosmetics. The Fame Pass levels up as you gain Fame by completing challenges and playing matches. Some costumes come from other franchises or games, such as Gordon Freeman from the Half-Life series or Jacket from Hotline Miami. The game supports microtransactions for the purchase of additional in-game currencies.
