Overview
Heavensward is the first expansion to Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn, and comprises the game's 3.x patch series. After being falsely accused of regicide, the Warrior of Light, Alphinaud, and Tataru seek asylum in the Holy See of Ishgard. The theocratic city-state has been at war with the dragons of the neighboring Dravania for one thousand years, but the winds of change are beginning to blow. The Warrior of Light finds key allies in both Estinien, a dragoon who seeks to slay the great wyrm Nidhogg, and Lady Iceheart, a heretic to the church who is able to harness the power of the Primal Shiva. While the party travels to Dravania, intent on ending the war one way or another, a sinister conspiracy within the church of Ishgard begins to emerge.
In addition to its new story content, Heavensward's initial release increased the level cap to 60 and added three new combat jobs. Machinist is a ranged DPS that uses guns and gadgets to conquer its foes. Dark Knight is a tank that draws on one's own inner darkness to protect the innocent. Lastly, Astrologian is a healer that draws on the power of the stars to change their allies' fate. A new playable race was also added at this time, the lizard-like Au Ra.
Other major content additions for the 3.x series include Alexander, an 8-player raid series in which players battle against the gargantuan Primal Alexander and those who seek to abuse its power; Shadow of Mhach, a 24-player raid series in which players team up with a band of sky pirates to solve the mystery of a sinister ghost ship; the Warring Triad, an 8-player trial series in which players battle against a trio of reawakening Elder Primals; and the Palace of the Dead, a roguelike dungeon with 200 floors.
