Mysterious Island

Mysterious Island is a series of arcade games for the VIC-20.

You have escaped from prison in a hot air balloon, which has descended to a small inhospitable island. Game play consists of numerous arcade segments, riddles, math puzzles, and exploring a large island.

The game starts with a balloon descent, where the player must try to gather energy modules and land on the small island at the bottom of the screen while avoiding dangerous birds and crashing into the ocean below. Any mistake leads to death and game over.

After arriving on the island, the player can move about and search for treasures. Each treasure chest presents the player with a math problem, where they must input the 5th digit in a sequence. Items and coins are awarded with successful completion of a puzzle. Some treasure chests contain a word puzzle which must be solved to receive the treasure. If the player is incorrect on the number sequence or the word puzzle, they're sent to The Hive, which is a series of dark tunnels that must be escaped to reach the exit.

While exploring the island, the player is engaged by giant crabs. In this arcade sequence, the player must reach the exit point while avoiding all of the slow moving crabs that move towards the player.
