Overview
Shoot-em-up Fly-2020 was the debut game of the Busan-based company Mips Soft, which six years later would literally give its country a wonderful StarCraft clone called Armageddon: For the Crimson Glory and die of altruism.
There is no plot background here: you just need to choose one of two ships (the first is faster, the second is more survivable) and rush into battle. Here we are waiting for very large models due to their low resolution and enemies attacking from all sides: you can move not only up and down, but also back and forth. At the same time, everything that is worth paying attention to is constantly in sight and is not lost. The background for what is happening on eight levels is a variety of entourages: from outer space to factories and jungles.
The war machine controlled by the player is equipped with two types of weapons: a bow gun and a kind of emitter that destroys everything that is on the screen at the moment. Ammunition in Fly-2020 is finite, and this is the most interesting feature of the game. The fact is that there are two indicators expressed in percentages and not limited at the top: life and ammunition. With the first one, everything is clear - you need to keep it as far from zero as possible to avoid a gameover after wasting all attempts (initially there are three of them). But the second one is not only exhausted when firing, but also determines the current mode of fire: if at one hundred percent it is a continuous burst, but at fifty it becomes less frequent, and at zero it turns into single shots. The same resource is spent when using weapons of mass destruction - emitters. But as soon as you pick up the bonuses with ammo dropped from the defeated enemies (health is restored in the same way) and bring the indicator to one hundred and fifty percent, the area of destruction of the main weapon increases (a clear illustration of the principle "violence begets more violence"). This approach, unfortunately, is rare in the genre, which in itself adds Fly-2020 points.
Enemies are represented by living monstrous creatures resembling fish (it's hard to say whether this is a hello to Darius: they don't look very much alike), various spaceships and robots. There is enough variety, there will be no time to be bored, especially when meeting with traditionally colossal bosses.
