Overview
Double Phantom Combat is a flight simulation game where two players engage in aerial dogfights by linking two BBC Micro computers via their user ports. Each player controls an F-4 Phantom II fighter jet in real-time, maneuvering through simulated airspace to locate and destroy their opponent.
Players operate their aircraft using keyboard or optional joystick inputs, managing flight dynamics including thrust, pitch, and roll, as well as deploying weapons systems. The display provides cockpit instrumentation and positional feedback, simulating a simplified modern jet combat experience.
This game is an expanded two-player adaptation of Phantom Combat, a single-player simulation released by the same developers and publisher the year prior. While both games share the same core mechanics and aircraft model, Double Phantom Combat introduces head-to-head gameplay by enabling a live connection between two machines—one of the few BBC Micro games to do so.
