Overview
Shipwreck is a text adventure game in which players take the role of a sailor returning home from a successful voyage when disaster strikes. After the ship is damaged during a violent storm, the player must survive and find a way to safety, initially clinging to floating debris and eventually exploring a desert island.
The game is played entirely via text commands. Players input verbs and directions to move, collect items, solve puzzles, and interact with the environment. Abbreviations are supported, and basic inventory and status systems are included. The game tracks player progress, inventory capacity, and survival factors like thirst. Objects can be combined or used creatively to overcome obstacles—for instance, transforming a basket into a boat using tar. A magic word can influence events, and players can save or restore their position.
Shipwreck includes a time-based storm system and random events, such as encounters with a snake or a hostile island inhabitant. Navigation covers locations aboard the ship, underwater, and throughout a multi-zone island with beaches, cliffs, forests, and caves. The ultimate goal is to escape the island by delivering a valuable item to a ship’s captain offshore.
