Overview
Understanding's Awari is a digital version of the traditional two-player strategy board game of the mancala family, widely played in West Africa and the Caribbean. The game is played on a board with two rows of six pits, each initially containing four seeds, and two larger stores or "homes" (optional in some versions) at each end of the board.
Players take turns selecting one of the pits on their side of the board and distributing its contents one by one in a counterclockwise direction into subsequent pits. If the final seed lands in an opponent's pit and brings the total in that pit to exactly two or three, the player captures those seeds. Multiple captures are possible in a single turn, moving backwards from the last pit as long as each meets the capture condition.
The objective is to capture more seeds than the opponent. The game ends when a player cannot move because all their pits are empty, or when a repetition or stalemate occurs. Strategic planning is essential, as players must manage seed distribution to create capture opportunities while avoiding giving them to the opponent.
The game was given away with "The Home Computer Advanced Course".
