A long time ago a small species of reptiles evolved to the point of developing magical abilities, this allowed them to create an advanced society, focused on improving and expanding knowledge about magic. It didn't take long for this species to notice that the most practical way of transmitting this knowledge would be through engravings, which just needed to be observed to be understood.
