Onslaught

Overview

Onslaught is a platform game set in a science fiction environment, featuring side-scrolling gameplay with a focus on fast action and heavy on-screen activity. The player explores a series of levels filled with enemies and environmental hazards, using various weapons to advance through increasingly difficult stages.

The game was designed to include eight-way scrolling and to support a large number of active enemies on screen simultaneously, pushing the capabilities of the BBC Micro. Gameplay mechanics were centered on exploration and combat within compact, action-filled levels.

Onslaught was never officially released. It was originally planned as a multipart type-in listing for Acorn User magazine in 1993, but the project was discontinued before completion. A demo version and the full source code were later made publicly available.
