Overview
La Leyenda del Vikingo (1991) is a rare historical find from the Spanish shareware scene! It was programmed by Ángel García Delgado (A.G.D.) and distributed as a pack-in title inside Ediciones Manali's premiere issue of PC Juegos (Issue #1).
The Gameplay Loop: The game is a straightforward 2D side-scrolling or fixed-screen arcade action game. True to the era's simplistic platformer design, players control a muscular Viking warrior navigating basic landscape tiers (like icy fields or rocky shores) to battle small enemy sprites, leap across water or pit hazards, and find simple hidden treasure tokens.
The Technical Design: To guarantee maximum compatibility across early 90s Spanish home computer clones, it was heavily optimized to consume less than 512KB of system memory. The graphic engine displays the action exclusively in a high-contrast 4-color CGA graphics palette (typically utilising cyan, magenta, white, and black against a dark sky void).
