Arcventure: The Vikings

Overview

Arcventure: The Vikings is an educational title designed to teach 7 - 11 year olds about the Vikings and how they lived in the Coppergate part of York in the 10th century.

There are two game levels, easy and hard, as well as a teacher mode where progress of pupils can be checked on.

The game itself has two modes, the Adventure and the Time Traveller.

The Adventure simulates one of the Coppergate archaeological digs that took place between 1976 and 1981. Players have seventeen days, game time, to excavate an area and see what they can find. To do this they must choose the correct tools for the job, shovel, trowel, fine brush and magnifying glass. Recovered artefacts are logged into the dig's database where players can find out more about them as well as see an image of the reconstructed item. This part of the game plays like a point and click adventure game

The Time Traveller game plays like a role playing game. Players are given an object and are sent back in time to explore York, talk to characters, etc in order to find out what it is.
