Campaigns on the Danube 1805 & 1809

Overview

Campaigns on the Danube 1805 & 1809 is a macro-management wargame set during the Napoleonic Wars. The seven scenarios deal with the two conflicts mentioned in the game's title and cover Central Europe between Ulm and Olmutz.

The player, either on the French or Austrian side, does take the role of the commander. This means the focus is not on battle tactics but on overall strategy and logistics: there is no direct control over troop movement; the player can only issue general orders like moving towards a town via messenger. They require time to reach their target, may be attacked on the way and because of the fog of war mechanics, the player might not even be aware if they made it at all. Like most games of its kind, the play time is mostly spent on an overhead map of the area where troops and represented by abstract icons. The map is framed by utility icons which are used to enter sub-menus.
