Bristol

Bristol is a computerized version of the popular solitaire card game of the same name. Developed by Maurice Jones, it was published in Issue #180 of Loadstar Disk Magazine in 1999.

Bristol is a patience game played with a standard 52-card deck. It resembles the fan-type game La Belle Lucie and features a unique mechanic where cards can be built regardless of suit, both on the foundations and the tableau. This game is known for being one of the easiest to win and was invented by Morehead & Mott-Smith around 1950.

**Rules:**

Eight piles (or fans) of three cards each are dealt onto the tableau. If any king is not at the bottom of its pile, it is moved underneath. Then, three additional cards are placed under these piles, forming the bases for the three reserve piles.

Whenever an ace becomes available, it starts a foundation that can be built up to a king, regardless of suit. The same applies to the other three aces.

The top card of each tableau pile and the top card of each reserve pile can be played on the foundations or the tableau. Like the foundations, tableau piles are built down, regardless of suit. Only one card can be moved at a time, and when a pile becomes empty, it is never refilled.

Cards from the stock are dealt to the reserve three at a time, one for each pile. Consequently, gaps in the reserve are filled during the deal; therefore, when a reserve pile becomes empty, it is not filled until the next batch of three cards is dealt.

The game is won when all cards are placed in the foundations. Given that all building is done without regard to suit, the chances of achieving this are quite high.
