Overview
Chase Ace 2 is a top-down shooter. The levels, called arenas, are linear and have the player fight against fixed enemy spawns and environmental obstacles like black holes or energy waves which can crush the ship against walls. Usually all enemies have to killed in order to open the way to the next challenge.
Within the borders of the arena the ship can freely move and turn, other than that the only available commands are shooting and switching weapons. Two gauges on the top of the screen show the shield status (running out of shields results in the loss of a life) and available ammo; both can be refilled by picking up the associated power-ups. Other power-ups include additional weapons, special ammo and other useful enhancements like double shots, a power shield or auto fire (normally the player has to press the fire button once for each shot). There are different ships available which vary in aspects like speed or manoeuvrability.
