CompuChess

Compuchess is a chess program that has been around for a while. Consequently its feature list has changed over time. The following description is based on version 1.67, dated 21st Dec 2003, which seems to be the latest incarnation of the game.

The game has both 2D and 3D chess boards & pieces, hint and undo functions, plays at both beginner and grand master level (around 2500 ELO), it can load and save games if they are in .pgn (portable game notation) format, it has different modes on play ranging from a full chess tournament to a quick match. CompuChess has a library of game openings and it can 'learn' more, additionally the player can turn off this feature for an easier game.
