Overview
Mechanik EN57 is a Polish train simulator released in 1997 for MS-DOS, developed by Aleksander Madej and Robert Kowalski at the University of Łódź. The game recreates the driver’s cab of the EN57 electric multiple unit, a train widely used in Poland since the 1960s. Featuring simple first-person graphics, it stood out for its convincing physics and the ability to customize routes, sounds, and textures.
The DeLuxe Edition (2000) expanded the concept with a dynamic route generator, varied weather conditions, and international scenery. Later, fans created the Trasaland Edition, regarded as the most complete and stable release, adding new routes and improvements.
Despite its technical limitations, Mechanik EN57 is remembered as one of the first cab-view train simulators, pioneering railway immersion on PC, and remains playable today through DOSBox.
