Grand Prix Special

Grand Prix Special, also known as "Lemans" is a racing game set on a simplified track where the player controls a car competing in time-limited heats. There is no narrative framing or backstory; the game focuses entirely on reflex-based driving within a constrained display area. The title was included as a type-in program in the book "Getting Acquainted with Your Acorn Atom".

Players steer a car vertically up the screen while avoiding barriers and staying within the track. Controls use the CTRL key to steer left and SHIFT to steer right. The player selects a difficulty factor (1–5) at the start of each session, which influences gameplay speed or responsiveness. Points are awarded based on performance during each race segment, with a cumulative score displayed at the end. A high score is tracked between sessions, and players can immediately begin a new race.
