Ego

Overview

Ego is a one or two player Breakout variant

The game has a story that starts with some good news, you've won the lottery. The bad news is that so have many other people because the evil Dr. Centric has fixed it. Worse still all lottery winners have had a virus planted in the winners subconscious. Cue a breakout game in which the player must defeat the evil doctor.

The game itself is a keyboard controlled two player breakout game played either against the computer or against another person. Each player has a stack of bricks arranged along the top, or bottom, of the screen. In front of each stack is the player's paddle and they must use this to defend their bricks by keeping the ball in play. If they fail to intercept the ball it will hit their stack and damage or destroy one or more bricks.

Each player has a gun built into their paddle but this only fires bullets to the centre of the screen. Power-ups appear as bubbles which move from right to left along the centre of the screen and the player who shoots the bubble has a chance of catching it as it falls towards their stack of bricks.

Players also have one or two missiles which can be used at any time but which are intended for use towards the end of a battle when their opponent has just a few bricks left.

There are fifty one levels in the game and every ten levels a new part of the story unfolds, it has sound, music and a high score table. The action keys can be redefined.
