Overview
Dustbowl is an adventure and survival RPG -hybrid set in a post-apocalyptic world where the surface has been devastated and filled with hazards such as mutants and bandits. The player lives in an underground shelter known as the Hub with their father. When mysterious earthquakes begin near the crater called the Dustbowl, the father leaves on a secret mission. The protagonist ventures to the surface to uncover the cause of the disturbances and to search for their missing parent.
The game uses a 2D point-and-click interface with retro-styled graphics. Players explore towns, ruins, and other locations while managing survival needs such as hunger, thirst, sleep, and health. A crafting system allows items scavenged in the environment to be converted into tools and equipment. Combat is turn-based, with tactical targeting of body parts and critical hit chances. Encounters occur both indoors and outdoors, with random events and side quests available. NPCs provide dialogue and missions, while a day-night cycle and inventory weight limits affect exploration and progression.
