Overview
Basketball compresses the sport into a fast-paced sequence of light pulses and reflex decisions. The player takes control of a blinking LED representing their basketball player, attempting to outmaneuver an opposing defender light and score baskets within a timed session. Each game becomes a stylized abstraction of the sport, reduced to rhythm, reaction, and spatial awareness across a glowing miniature court.
The playfield consists of a narrow LED grid divided into halves, symbolizing the court. The player’s LED blip moves across the field using directional controls, while an opposing computer-controlled light defends.
When on offense, the goal is to maneuver past the defender and shoot at the basket by pressing the Shoot button while standing in range. The LED representing the ball blinks toward the hoop; a successful score adds points. On defense, the player attempts to intercept or block the computer’s advances.
Each game runs on a timer, visible as flashing indicators at the top of the display. The player alternates between offense and defense after each basket or turnover. Difficulty is adjustable via the “Pro 1” and “Pro 2” settings—higher levels increase defender speed and reaction time. Audio feedback includes beeps for dribbling, shots, and score confirmations.
A typical match concludes when the timer expires, displaying the final score. The compact grid and rhythmic LED animations replicate the flow of basketball in abstract form—simple yet surprisingly intense.
