Solitaire

Overview

Released in February 1967 by D. Gottlieb & Co., Solitaire is a classic one-player electro-mechanical pinball machine known for its specific design choices intended to navigate Italian legal restrictions on "extra balls". Designed by industry legend Ed Krynski with artwork by Art Stenholm, the game features two flippers and is characterized by a "turret shooter" mechanism that allowed the game to handle extra balls by having the table "shoot it out" rather than awarding them in a way that violated local laws.

The game is inspired by the card game Solitaire. Players aim to hit rollovers and kickout holes to "get cards" in descending order. 3,100 units were produced by Gottlieb.
