Overview
Might and Magic: World of Xeen is a fantasy role-playing game that unites the stories of Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen and Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen into a single interconnected adventure. The game takes place on the twin worlds of Xeen, suspended between sky and underworld. In Clouds of Xeen, players oppose the tyrant Lord Xeen, who has enslaved the lands above. In Darkside of Xeen, a darker counterpart unfolds beneath the world’s surface, where the villainous Alamar plots domination. When played together, the two campaigns reveal the full structure of the world and a concluding storyline that resolves the fates of both realms.
The game combines first-person dungeon exploration with turn-based combat and party management. Players form a six-character adventuring group, choosing from various fantasy races and classes such as knight, cleric, sorcerer, or ninja. Movement occurs on a tile-based map, with towns, wilderness areas, and multi-level dungeons to explore. Interaction with NPCs, puzzle-solving, and quest completion advance the story and improve characters through experience and equipment upgrades.
The PC-9801 version retains the full dual-campaign integration of the DOS release, offering Clouds of Xeen and Darkside of Xeen as seamless connected worlds. Gameplay elements include spellcasting, tactical combat phases, and extensive mapping, all supported by Japanese-language menus and dialogue.
