Overview
SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu: Goddess of Destiny is a turn-based RPG and a remake of the Game Boy classic Final Fantasy Legend II. It is set in a fantasy world where ancient relics known as "Magi" hold immense power, and the protagonist embarks on a quest to collect these scattered Magi. Alongside a group of allies, the protagonist also seeks answers about their father’s mysterious disappearance, which is tied to the Magi. The story takes players across various unique worlds, each with its own culture, monsters, and challenges, all under the looming influence of powerful deities.
The gameplay focuses on traditional turn-based combat where players form a party of four characters. The party can consist of humans, mutants, robots, and monsters, each with distinct abilities and growth systems. As characters fight in battles, they grow stronger in unique ways, such as humans improving through equipment and mutants developing powers randomly after battles. Players collect Magi to enhance their party's stats and unlock new abilities, making Magi a central mechanic in both progression and strategy.
Distinctive features of SaGa 2 include its flexible character development system, where the type of party members chosen drastically changes the gameplay experience. The ability to change and evolve monsters and robots by consuming items or equipment adds depth to party customization. The game also allows for a non-linear exploration approach, as players can revisit worlds and tackle side quests in any order.
