Overview
With this program, we present a solitaire puzzle that requires both thought and effort. The game involves placing eight queens on a chessboard so that none of them threatens another. Anyone familiar with chess knows that the queen can move horizontally, vertically, and diagonally; since a chessboard consists of 8 × 8 = 64 squares, it might seem impossible to place all eight queens without any two of them attacking each other. In reality, there are about seventy different solutions to the problem (excluding symmetries and rotations), yet the player will soon discover that finding even one is not so easy.
