Ami-Gyo

Overview

Ami-Gyo is a fish-themed medal game released by Sega. Various species of fish swimming through the ocean are projected on a 70-inch horizontal, 2-layered screen in the middle of the machine. The simple rules, colorful screen and unique jackpot mechanism are intended to interest both players and spectators.

It was followed by To Ami-Gyo a year later.

Players use a dial-shaped controller to aim at a fish they want to catch and insert their medal to cast their nets. If the net hits a fish they get a number of medals, also called a "Catch". Catching larger fish or a school of fish nets the player a combo that increases their Catch.

For every 100kg worth of fish caught, they can challenge the "Big Catch Slot", with a good chance of progressing to the "Pearl Challenge" where they catch pearls. Collecting 10 pearls start the "Jackpot Chance", causing the second screen, the analog lottery system known as "Ami-gyo Kuruun", to slide out from underneath the top screen.

Catching a sea bream in the undersea palace Ryūgū-jō (龍宮城) awards the player with a free treasure box. Defeating a giant fish that suddenly appears lets players participate in "Giant Fish Split Roulette" . Other special events include "Medal Jellyfish" which splits apart, and "V Chance" where clearing missions earns you medals.
