Overview
Avoid The Roids is a single player, freeware game that is played via the keyboard.
The game is played in a small, non-resizeable window. At the bottom of the screen is the points counter and the game status indicator. At the top of the window is a menu bar with options to start a game, change game speed, turn sound on and off.
The object of the game is to survive as long as possible, the longer the player survives the more points are gained. Using the arrow keys the player manoeuvres a red space ship around the game area. As the game progresses the Roids start to appear one at a time. These are probably best described as floating mines that move faster than the player's ship and bounce off the walls. Any contact with a Roid destroys the ship. The player is shown a brief animation as the game ends. After a while Sweepers appear on the play area, these can destroy mines so the player can use them for protection.
The game has music, sound, and a high score table. The player has only one life and there is no save game feature.
All game information such as the help screen and the high score table are displayed in a separate window that partially overlays the game area.
