Overview
Airstrike follows an Apache-style attack helicopter deployed by the North Atlantic Defence Alliance in a conflict against the nation of Dosnovia. Operating from an offshore aircraft carrier, the pilot receives mission briefings that outline specific enemy targets scattered across coastal defenses, inland settlements, and military installations. Performance is evaluated after each mission, with commendations for precision and reprimands for unnecessary destruction.
Players control a helicopter in a horizontally scrolling environment, flying over looping terrain while engaging designated objectives. Enemy forces include soldiers armed with missiles, gunboats, anti-aircraft guns, radar stations, and missile batteries positioned among civilian structures. Points are awarded for destroying legitimate military targets, while damaging neutral elements such as trees reduces the score.
Missions progress through a sequence of twenty-one stages. The helicopter can land on the carrier when it reappears at the end of the scrolling map, automatically replenishing ammunition and repairing damage. Failed missions may be retried, though choosing to abandon one returns the player partway back through the mission list.
