The Busy World of Richard Scarry: Best Reading Program Ever

Overview

The Busy World of Richard Scarry: Best Reading Program Ever is an educational game for children aged three to six and teaches reading, writing and phonics for the English language. Huckle the cat and Lowly the worm meet Mr. Fixit the fox at the start of the game. He has built a storymobile to hold stories about Busytown, but has forgotten the stories. The duo decides to walk around the town and talk to people to collect stories. Each location in the game has different mini-games tied to skills. After completing an activity a book appears at home. It can then be clicked to read or listen along to the story about that location.

The game contains five locations (farm, campground, beach, supermarket and school) and each one has three phonics activities, word play, and a find and click game. It also contains fifteen animated stories that can be read along. There is a story writer and parents can use an online progress report, info and suggestions. Skills include matching words to pictures and matching letters to sound and vocabulary, identifying rhyming words, sequencing events, recognizing upper and lower case letters, identifying beginning sounds, finding objects in a picture, observing details, identifying end sounds, forming categories, spelling three letter words, recognizing the alphabet, listening to stories and writing stories.
