Star Wars: Outlaws

Overview

Star Wars: Outlaws is a single-player third-person action-adventure game.

The story takes place between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The player assumes the role of the scoundrel Kay Vess, a young thief from the glitzy casino-world of Canto Bight who dreams of leaving the fringes of the Outer Rim behind and forging a new life among the Core Worlds. Her flight from a crime boss interests a wide network of criminal syndicates and Imperial agents alike, so Kay must assemble a team, secure resources, navigate betrayals and rivalries, steal a starship, and ultimately carry out a high-stakes heist in order to survive and change her fate.

Gameplay centres on an expansive open-world structure covering multiple planets and a personal starship. The player pilots Kay across planetary surfaces on a speeder bike, infiltrates bases or syndicate strongholds, engages in shooting (with blasters, environmental hazards and special abilities such as “Adrenaline” time-slow), and also participates in space-based travel and ship combat aboard her vessel, the Trailblazer.

Progression is driven by gaining credits, acquiring new gear (blasters, speeder upgrades, ship enhancements), unlocking new skills for Kay and her companion creature Nix (who can scan environments and distract or attack enemies), and upgrading reputation with four major criminal factions (the Ashiga Clan, Crimson Dawn, Hutt Cartel and Pyke Syndicate). A notoriety or “wanted” level system determines how aggressively Imperial forces pursue Kay when her deeds draw attention.

Missions and open-world activities span heists, bounty chases, extraction jobs, speeder races and ship-based smuggling runs. Many planet hubs (such as Toshara, Tatooine and others) serve as bases for side-contracts, exploration and faction manoeuvring. The narrative weaves through Kay gathering her crew, recovering her stolen ship, suffering betrayal and forging alliances, while the mechanical framework supports multiple solutions: stealth, hacking and blunt force. Dialogue sequences offer choice and tone variation though they do not heavily branch into radically different endings. The starship acts as a home base and fast-travel hub with upgradeable components and equipment.
