Overview
Colosseum is a brawler set in Ancient Rome. The single-player campaign follows the nameless player character who fights through six levels (plus a tutorial) to become famous. Combat during the campaign is wave-based.
The player has the choice between four combat styles (mace, spear, sword & shield and dual wield) which come with their own set of combos. These are powerful attacks which are performed by using the correct attack pattern with the correct timing. Besides attacking, the character can also block (the block button can be held as long as wished, but breaks after a few consecutive hits), dodge or use rage actions (refill health, pull opponents toward the player, push enemies away or a power attack). The latter requires rage fuel which is earned with successful attacks or by performing bravados (feats like a perfect block, double kill, etc.). New weapons and armor is unlocked by completing challenges.
Besides the single player campaign, there are also five competitive multiplayer modes: deathmatch, holy ground (domination), banner carrier (collecting banners), giant (player-controlled giant vs. the other players; the winner needs the most kills as giant and the most damage against giants) and survival (last man standing against enemy waves).
