Return to Ash

Return to Ash follows the journey of Ashleigh, a young adult who awakens in a mysterious afterlife following a near decade-long hospitalization for a terminal illness. The narrative explores themes of mortality and human connection as Ashleigh encounters other souls trapped in the same realm, including Scarlet, an office worker, and Celadon, a man haunted by past mistakes. A masked entity identified as "Death" presides over this space, requiring the inhabitants to undergo various trials to determine their eligibility for a second chance at life.

As a narrative-driven visual novel, gameplay consists of reading text and selecting dialogue choices to direct the story's progression. Interaction is centered on relationship building with the supporting cast, where decisions influence the emotional trajectory and outcome of the story. These social bonds and the player's performance in "trials" dictated by Death determine which of the six distinct endings is reached.
