Bert the Barbarian

Bert the Barbarian is a fantasy platformer set within a mountain fortress rendered in a distinct clay-animation style. The narrative follows Bert, a stout warrior, as he infiltrates a fortified stronghold. The environment consists of grim medieval ramparts, dungeons, and multi-tiered stone structures. Hostile guards and mechanical traps defend the interior, serving as obstacles to Bert’s progress through the fortification.

Gameplay involves navigating 2D environments through walking, jumping, and climbing. Bert traverses the fortress by swinging on hanging ropes, which requires maintaining momentum and timing releases to clear large gaps or reach higher elevations. Combat is melee-focused; Bert uses a sword to defeat sentries modeled from clay who retaliate with blades or thrown knives.

The progression follows a linear path through the fortress, and the stages loop continuously upon completion of the final level.
