The neighborhood library has a nasty case of spooks, specters, and ghosts haunting the stacks. It’s your job, as head of the city’s foremost Professional Paranormal Investigation and Elimination Service, to capture the ghosts without all your uniforms getting slimed!

You are a Ghostbuster searching for ghosts in a library, spread across two floors of 10x10 screens each. Depending on which game variation you select, you either play on the 100 screen main floor or the 100 screen basement.

Along the way, you'll find bonus items which not only earn you points, but also lead to increased capabilities for your ghost detection equipment.

You have your Psychokinetic Energy (P.K.E.) Meter to help you locate the ghosts.

You start with only the sensor that tells you if you're close to a ghost, but can gain the ability to identify the class of ghost (higher numbers are faster, stay on screen for shorter times, and move more erratically), and the direction to the ghost.

You also have a map to help you figure out where in the library you are.

If you fire too long without allowing your pack to cool down, it will overheat and lock you out for a few seconds.

You have a total of 4 uniforms, and getting slimed by a ghost costs you one uniform.

You fire your proton stream at the ghost, which weakens it until the trap can be deployed to capture it (the trap is automatic once you've weakened the ghost).

There are 16 game variations available, that dictate the floor (main floor= easy, basement = hard), if the map is on or off, if the direction finder is available or not, and if the bonus items are randomly placed or put in the same location at the start of the game.
